Hurling:like a cross between ice hockey and murder

« on: February 08, 2010, 10:44:18 AM »

We want to adopt a cool/fierce/soul destroying/sarcastic/whateve' nickname/mascot name for the KCGAC. Like Kansas City National Football League Team is the Chiefs, our soccer team are the Wizards, our rugby team are the blues...you get it.

Let's pick a great name that we can all get behind. Things to think about in your decision: Ireland, Kansas City (we are an Irish American team, not an Irish team), Gaelic Football, Irish History, the Midwest, America...

Just put your suggestion on this topic and we'll have the board vote on the best names that get thrown our way.

I'll start it off:

1.The Kansas City Leprechauns (think about it...tricky little buggers, impossible to catch and magic up front!) Roll Eyes
2. The Kansas City Irish Wolfhounds
3. The Kansas City High Kings
4.The Kansas City Rovers
5. The Kansas City Scholars
6. The Kansas City Saints
7. The Kansas City San Patricos
8. The Kansas City Wolfhounds
9. The Kansas City Hounds
10. The Kansas City Banshees

These are how the ideas are shaping up

2.) Kansas City Irish/American marauders

I want to change mine to the Midwest Banshees or Midwestern Banshees. I like that a lot better.

Full back - First started playing some time in the Pleistocene Epoch. Nicknamed The Brick . Will get a nose-bleed if he passes beyond his own 50 metre line. Utterly, utterly useless and yet is a great hit with the fans. Quite likes the smell of blood.

To go with a possible Irish American idea I looked up Irish civil war brigades and this is what I came up with.

Irish Brigade
Fighting 69th (awesome)
San Patricio's
Meagher's Brigade

Brad these are awesome I hope they are considered. I wished I thought of them !!!!
A few years ago I did some civil war reenacting and Meaghers was one of the battalions that we fought with against the confederates.

In line with other loacl team names while also being a little Irish could go with High Kings.

Also like Chad's Wolfhounds

I have to admit, out of all of the ones I saw pertaining to civil war era San Patricio's was my favorite.  Even though it isn't civil war I think it's the most interesting story about Irish and war in the United States.

The Kansas City Gaelickers....but Missy Bs already has that one!

Ireland is known as the island of Saints and Scholars...maybe we could be The Kansas City Saints (New Orleans would not mind)

Or...The Irish built most of the railroads in America we could be The Kansas City Railway Men.
